Home Learn Link

Home Learn Link is a dedicated, home based, one-to-one literacy support service being delivered by Ayrshire Initiatives with support from South Ayrshire Lifelong Learning Partnership. It is piloting a different approach to engaging those who are traditionally hardest to reach.

Home Learn Link delivers literacy support to around 40 of the most vulnerable people in South Ayrshire each year. The project has been developed with the aim of:

  • engaging with individuals who would not normally seek literacy support or access existing services; and
  • facilitating and supporting learners into mainstream literacy and learning opportunities.

Individual learners are referred by Ayrshire Initiatives Housing Support Team and other support agencies having been identified as requiring intensive literacy and/or numeracy support.

The Literacy Tutor works with individuals whose literacy and numeracy difficulties are adversely affecting their lives to improve their core skills and confidence and move them into mainstream learning opportunities

This involves working with individuals in their own home on a regular basis over a fixed period of time. A learning support plan is agreed with the individual. It includes goals, the level of support to be provided and a timescale for moving learners into mainstream support. The Literacy Tutor and Housing Support Team assist and support individuals to move from home-based to mainstream support by identifying opportunities, making contacts with providers and accompanying the learner to appointments, course open days and other opportunities.
